Mid-March MASTERCLASSES 2011

Picture
With Gradings coming up fast at the end of April, there's a lot of preparation and training taking place !   Shihan Bissett is already travelling, and working with both our veteran Black-Belts as well as our new Shodan candidates.  Few things are as exciting as the intense preparations for achieving these important and long-held goals.

Contact from BLACK-BELTS to Renovate & Upgrade Skills
01 Feb 2011

Picture
Hearing from Black-Belts who have 'been away' is not only a very gratifying thing, it is natural.  On average we hear from 4-5 'former' Black-Belts every month, and often because they have discovered a need or desire to reconnect with an important part of their lives.
After setting a few goals for their 'refresher' training, a few opportunities for face-to-face time, and some realistic goals, most of our Black-Belt colleagues are back on-track for whatever their next steps may be.
We look forward to these contacts, and to the renewal of the friendships that go along with them.  Let us hear from you too !

Calgary MasterClass
June 2010

Picture
As many of you know, .. we recently held a sort of “mini-launch” in Calgary for the Kelowna and Calgary folks who could not attend the Manitoba event in April.
It was great to see some of our old friends, and about 10 new friends, that all enjoyed a seminar that looked at "up against the Wall" techniques.
We  had a follow-up get-together at the Pub.  ( are you surprised ?)

2010 Combat Arts / 2010 BLACK-BELT CLINICS

Whether you're an active member, or you've 'been away', .. get in touch, come on out if you can, and join us for this giant Training / Reunion / Celebration / Grading / event.

BISSETT JIU-JITSU 2010 CURRICULUM REVIEW COMPLETE !
Posted April 06, 2010

10 years since our last Curriculum Update !   A lot of you were not fond of the 'simplified' versions of many of the techniques reflected in the last Training Handbook.  Well, .. if you love Jishin-Ryu (like we do) then you'll love the new Training Handbook.  True to our style, streamlined and nasty, all typos gone, .. and with a cool Red cover !
This new version, containing a few important technical 'changes' (mostly back to some of your old favourites), and lots of improvements, will stand without change until 2020.
     10 more years of excellence.

KELOWNA JIU-JITSU
Posted July 21, 2009

This July marked a milestone for the Kelowna Jiu-Jitsu Club.  Darren Enevoldson and Todd Booker both displayed exceptional skills in two of the sharpest and most technically-precise Black- Belt tests in recent years.  Despite injuries during the run-ups to these exams, Darren Enevoldson won his 3rd Degree Black-Belt, and Todd Booker gained his Nidan 2nd Degree Black-Belt.  The Master Class in the evening saw all members of the Kelowna Club working on their techniques with help from Sensei Bissett.

On Tuesday, June 30th, 2009 Sensei Leith Saunders became the first woman in Canada to receive a 3rd Degree Black Belt in Jishin-Do Jiu-Jitsu.  Shihan Chris Bissett (left), 8th Degree Black Belt and Chief Instructor of Jishin-Do Jiu-Jitsu in Canada, adjudicated Saunders' test.  Sensei Rick Williamson (right), 6th Degree Black Belt and Head Instructor for Portage Jiu-Jitsu, was also on hand to assist with the testing.

BISSETT JIU-JITSU IN CHICAGO
 Posted May 19, 2009
1          This past weekend, Shihan Chris BISSETT had the opportunity to work with 2 groups of highly-motivated law-enforcement officers in Chicago.  Always good to get the kind of ‘street-level’ user reports from folks who are involved in confrontations weekly.
2          The Saturday group, (almost 50) was enthusiastic, open to having some new tools in their belts, and willing to try new techniques.  A pleasure to work with. The group looked at the Handgun retention, Close-Quarters Grappling, as well as our standard ‘bonus’ Tai-Jitsu weapons attacks.
3          Shihan BISSETT and the Black Belts were (of course) required to conduct their standard study of “potential confrontations” in the sports bars of Chicago.  No episodes to report.

TRAINING IN LAS VEGAS
 Posted May 19, 2009

1          Last week, Shihan BISSETT had the opportunity to work with a small group of TJ Black Belts in Vegas.  Development occurs at all levels, and we hope to see some of these folks visiting some of our other training opportunities soon.

BISSETT JIU-JITSU IN LONDON

Posted:  April 08, 2009

1       This past weekend, Shihan Chris BISSETT along with Sensei Sam SABAN had the opportunity to work with a highly-motivated, receptive, and talented group of Black-Belts from Hanshi Peter BROWNE’s Kenpo-Jitsu schools in London.  More than 40 Black-Belts assembled for a series of seminars on Choking and Grabbing defenses, as well as Tai-Jitsu Knife techniques.
2       On the Sunday, a large (near 100) mixed-group was no different, .. they were enthusiastic, willing to listen to new ideas, and willing to try new techniques.  A real pleasure to teach. The group looked at the Headlock Series, Close-Quarters Punch Series, as well as a few ‘bonus’ Tai-Jitsu weapons attacks.
3       Shihan BISSETT and Sensei SABAN were naturally interested in conducting a study of “potential confrontation” in the pubs of London.  After studying no less than 15 of these pubs, they concluded that they needed water and a rest before the next set of seminars.
4       A number of the London Black-Belts took our people out for a Saturday night out in Soho, .. really a super time .
5       Our thanks to Hanshi Peter BROWNE for hosting us in Britain.
